Why is Mold a Concern?
Mold has been linked to illnesses and deaths across the country. Mold exposure has been known to lead to aggravated asthma, allergic rhinitis and hypersensitivity pneumosis. The first symptoms are similar to flu-like reactions.
Mold is a type of fungi that is found everywhere in the natural environment. It is nature’s way of decomposing organic material. Many molds reproduce by forming microscopic spores. These spores detach easily and are light enough to become airborne and travel over large distances where they can invade a building. At this point, the spores await the right conditions to grow: Primarily, this means a food source. The food source is commonly wood and other cellulose materials and the moisture might come from a leaky pipe or roof.
